• I’m a professional photographer, and I’m trying to find a WordPress alternative to my Photoshelter site. NextGen appeared to be the best of the available gallery plugins. I heartfeltedly assure you, it is not. Based on its performance – plus its customer support – it’s arguably one of the worst, if not the actual worst.

I tested it for a while in presales mode and reported issues with absurdly slow upload speeds and images failing to upload, among other issues, and the customer support basically said “gosh nobody’s ever had those issues before, that’s so weird”, and that they would not be able to help at all unless I actually purchased the wretched plugin.

Idiot that I am, I did purchase it – admittedly with a hefty discount – and guess what? The upload speeds are still glacial, the images still fail to upload, the gallery management is still chaos, the frontend layouts aren’t an improvement – and what benefit do people actually get from using this abominable plugin?

I’ve paid for it, surely I should be able to get some use out of it – oh no, the uploader is still useless.

    DO NOT USE THIS PLUGIN.

Edit: My upload speed is 100MB, so bandwidth is not the problem. Time to resume using Flickr, perhaps?

  • Hi @harpistic,

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience with the NextGEN Gallery plugin. I understand how frustrating this must be, and I appreciate your feedback.

Basically, there are various factors that made decrease the performance issues of your site. Moreover, slow uploads, failed images, and difficult gallery management are not the experience we want for any of our users.

While we know you’ve already gone through some troubleshooting issues during your testing, we’d still love the chance to help you get things working properly.

If you’re willing, please share a few details such as PHP version, or any errors you’re seeing while activating the NextGEN Gallery plugin. We’ll do our best to find out what’s going on and see if we can make things work better for you.

    Thanks!
