 * Hello,
 * I have a problem with permalinks. I googled a lot searching for a solution but
did not find anything applicable. That’s why I am placing this post here.
 * Assume there are pages created with WP backend (the domain name is fancy):
    1.
   [http://www.xyz.com/ebook](http://www.xyz.com/ebook) 2. [http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1](http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1)
   3. [http://www.xyz.com/ebook-2](http://www.xyz.com/ebook-2)
 * URLs for pages 2 and 3 were created automatically to avoid duplicate URLs as
user wanted to created 3 pages using ‘ebook’ as the title. Now, I sent [http://www.xyz.com/ebook](http://www.xyz.com/ebook)
to the trash bin and removed it definitely subsequetly. But when I input [http://www.xyz.com/ebook](http://www.xyz.com/ebook)
into browser’s address bar I get redirected to [http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1](http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1).
   Moreover, if I removed [http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1](http://www.xyz.com/ebook-1)
also I would get redirected to [http://www.xyz.com/ebook-2](http://www.xyz.com/ebook-2)
 * Is it possible to avoid this behaviour? I mean I would like 404 error page displayed
when I try to access [http://www.xyz.com/ebook](http://www.xyz.com/ebook) even
though pages having URLs suffixed with -1 and -2 exist.
 * Thank you for you help.

 * As you’ve mentioned, the -1 -2 -3 suffix is added automatically to prevent issues
with duplicate permalinks. WordPress thinks you’re creating multiple pages/posts
of the same name (which apparently, you are) and adds the “-1,-2,-3” in an effort
to know which one to display.
 * Would it be any more of a practical/convenient solution to simply modify your
ebook page naming conventions slightly and avoid the issue entirely? Example:/
ebook1 /ebook2, etc.. something specific to each page.

 * Thank you very much for your reply.
 * Your idea to modify the naming convention is great as it would really solve the
problem. The problem is there are many links on other pages that we will not
be able to update. So if I modify the naming convention, the site will loose
   traffic driven by those links.
 * Are there any other solutions (that would allow to keep urls as they are) available?
