Support » Plugin: Gutenberg » A big step in the wrong direction

  • I develop websites for clients. WordPress is one of the main ways I build sites. But with Gutenberg building a site has become a steeple chase instead of a race on flat ground.
Of course new things always make for a period of adjustment. But it’s not just the fact that Gutenberg is still buggy, there is a larger problem: If I want a website development system that is ‘easy to use’ but a bit restrictive, I’d build websites on or similar services.
Wordpress used to be flexible and highly customizable. This is now a thing of the past. I am constantly fighting the UI, trying to get CSS code implemented without breaking stuff, trying to get the lay-out I want, then having to give up because it just doesn’t work.
As far as I am concerned, Gutenberg is best buried and forgotten as quickly as possible. It is not the revolution it’s name implies. It’s a devolution.
