Importing Custom Fields with Citations.

    Hi, I have four questions:

    1. I am looking at both AcademicPress and Enhanced Publication. I would like to make the citations I import to be available through OAI-PMH harvesting like what is described here and here.
    2. I have several custom fields (ISO 639-3 codes relating to the subject of the work and to the language the work is written in) in my endnote database where I keep my citations. I would like to bring this data (citations with their custom values [which are text values]) over to my WordPress site and I would like the to work as custom taxonomies 🙂 . Is it possible to import these custom values when I import my citations? if so how?
    3. It looks like you are implementing some of the SPAR ontologies. That is awesome! When you are allowing for the citation inline (in the text) it looks like you are using a short code, but do you also allow for or provide a mechanism to use CiTO?     4. My last question is: Is the citation actually imported to the WP post? or is it only the shortcode. (I am thinking about when the data someday might move off of a WP instance), would the citations actually be in the text area or will this have to be cleaned up per post?

    Thanks for your comments.
    1. This looks very interesting, but with limited time on my part, I don’t think this is something we can support in the foreseeable future.
    2. Custom fields will probably be imported as notes, and will not be used in most of the display senarios.
    3. I do not use CiTO in the shortcode at this moment, because the main senario when we developed this plugin was to show a reference list on project/user profile pages, thus not citations per se. What you mentioned is an interesting case, and I will keep it in mind as a new feature.
    4. References/citations are not stored in post/page. They are stored in custom database tables. When migrating your data out of WP, the best practice is to use the export feature.
