On your “shorter” site, you have used frames and this is not going to work as you want it.

Your best option is to look for domain redirects 301 and develop only one site, but both domains will go that site only.

As I see it, you are developing your site at this address:

http://www.ivangabaldon.com/rideintobirdland

So the redirect should be put in your other domain. I suggest loin to your registrar website <http://www.PublicDomainRegistry.com> and make the necessary changes or ask them how to do it.

Good luck.

Hello!

Thank you so much for your reply.

Still, I’m at a loss trying to figure out exactly what you mean and how to go about it. Please excuse me for not being more versed on these matters, I’m only a self-taught “webmaster”.

I’ll try to explain myself better:

My original website is http://www.ivangabaldon.com, I started developing it in 2005, and indeed it was built mostly with frames, as I couldn’t figure out another way to do it back then. In spite of the many things going against using frames, it has served me just fine so far. This is my main site and I need to continue developing and updating it independently from my blog.

Then, last year, I decided to start a blog, installed WordPress in the rideintobirdland directory I created at my website and started producing my blog at http://www.ivangabaldon.com/rideintobirdland, which has also worked fine so far. There are no frames in the blog, it’s just a standard WordPress site.

Finally, a few months ago, I purchased the http://www.rideintobirdland.com, hoping to be able to use the shorter domain name, but without buying additional hosting. It works, except for the menus for login in and subscribing.

I have just been messing with 301 redirects in my site’s CPanel, to no avail. I have written for support from my Hosting Service as well, but any additional help here will be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

IGH

OK, I contacted support at my WebHosting service, and they suggested:

1. Get separate hosting for the site and blog, or;
2. Disable all redirects and make items from the Meta Widget menu open in a new page, since they seem to work OK when opened in a blank page

So I’ve been trying to implement option 2, and to that effect I installed the custom-meta-widget plugin, thinking that would allow me to set an option for the LogIn and Register items to open in a new page. It didn’t although it did allow me to customize the Meta menu and eliminate some of the links I’m not interested in (RSS comments and such)

So the new question is: How do I get the items in my Meta widget to open in a new, blank page?

All help deeply appreciated.

IGH
