Recomend me a lightweight flexable easy to use photo gallery plugin.

Hello all!
I am creating a wordpress theme for a client that’s a photographer, its a re-design from a couple of years ago, he has difficulty understanding the upload process using NextGEN Gallery, I had Pages setup to separate gallery’s.

Have things improved? Or are there better plugins to use that you could recommend me? Or a themeing method using built in tools?
