• I have a request for the WordPress community. If you have gotten spammed recently, in either your comments or your main blog, could you please email me a copy of the spam if and when you get a chance? I would really appreciate your help. I also request that you copy and paste the header (comment topic) in a seperate line before the content of the spam and put “WordPress Comment Spam” somewhere in the subject of your email. Thanks in advance.
    Peace

  • Maybe it would be possible to have a public archive with comment spam that developers could use to improve their anti-spam-stuff?

That would be incredibly useful! I would start testing my hypothesis on comment spam! 🙂

Ok, then let’s simply open such a database. I’ll be happy to provide resources for that. What I need is only having some people sending in their spam comments. The best would be to have them as database dumps. As soon as I’ll have the first of these commens, I’ll put up a blog with those comments and allow download of spam comments as database dumps.

Could you give us instructions on how to do the database dump that you want? I’m not much skilled with MySQL and so am not sure what you mean, but would be glad to contribute. Just a couple of CLI commands would do the trick for me as I’m very familiar with the command-line.

This has been done, somewhat, maybe jay allen would be willing to share his list? ( I found out about it here: http://www.jayallen.org/journey/2003/09/killing_comment_spam_dead )

I think I’ll craft a small script that will allow to extract the comments in a format I can work with…

Great, then I’ll almost be feeling guilty for feeling excited for my next spam message to come it as I’ve deleted the rest.

Any new news on this script? Did I miss it in another post?
