[Theme: WP-Creativix] featured and latest posts on front page

Is it possible to change the “latest post” function on the main page to become a list of the “latest featured posts?” And to also change the existing “featured” post function to display the latest post of a specified category?

Or is it easier to just find a plugin that would be able to do this? Thanks, I’m not sure what is possible, better, or even how to go about it in either case.
