Support » Themes and Templates » WordPress Site Wider Than Normal

  • Good day,

I have a WordPress installation at http://www.cynamix.net and the site seems to be wider than every other WordPress site I have seen. I don’t feel comfortable with this and I want a solution to this. I do not think this is theme-related because it has been like that for every theme I have used. In fact I’ve seen other sites using the same themes I’ve used in the past including the one I use presently, they are not as wide as mine.

Please, how can I overcome this?

Is this how wide you see the website http://awesomescreenshot.com/043hoca6f ?

Now I’m not sure if you are being sarcastic here. If you would check this site out [ itechcode.com ]. We use the same theme from Studiopress but you should be able to see the difference now. That should get my message across.

Per your site’s http://www.cynamix.net/wp-content/themes/news/style.css file, you are using the commercial Genesis Framework.

We don’t support commercial products here. But if you head over to their support forum and ask over there I am sure you’ll get assistance.

Part of what you paid for with that purchase was support and you may as well use that option.

Okay, thank you I get that but if you read my intro text, I mentioned that it is like that for all other themes I’ve used – even the FREE ones. That’s why I felt it might not be a theme problem and decided to ask here first.

Gotcha, I missed that. Try the usual troubleshooting steps.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Once you’ve 100% deactivated all plugins, switched to Twenty Eleven, and cleared out your browser cache does the width issue still exist for you using Twenty Eleven?

Wow, I will try them all and let you know the result. Thank you

Please check out my link and click on the image so it pops-up into near-full-screen view.

Is that how wide you view your website?
I’m asking this feedback as this will confirm whether I’m seeing what you are.

I’m confused at this point but I have to thank you all fro your response. The screenshot Andrew Nevins sent seem like what I want but it’s not like that from my own end. If anyone could help, I’d want you to help compare the width of these two sites (cynamix.net and itechcode.com) to see if the widths are the same. We use the same theme and that could point me in the right direction. Thank you!

does this also happen if you view your site on a different computer or if you use a different browser?

what happens if you view a total unrelated website in the same browser window?

have you checked the browser ‘ZOOM’ settings?

    Thread Starter mcmedal001

    (@mcmedal001)

Thank you for the question. Other sites appear normal when I view it in my browser. When I zoom out, other sites still get smaller than mine. That’s one of the reasons I need people to help compare from their own end.

I see both sites with the same width, http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/171/widerthannormal.jpg/

    what browser are you using?
does it happen in a different browser or differnt computers?
what are the browser zoom settings when viewing exactly your ‘Wider Than Normal’ site?
    is everything just larger?
can you post a screenshot how you see the site?

have you tried to reset the browser zoom while viewing that site?

    Thread Starter mcmedal001

    what browser are you using?

    I use Mozilla Firefox

does it happen in a different browser or differnt computers?

I haven’t checked on other people’s computer and PC resolutions are mostly different, including browser settings.

have you tried to reset the browser zoom while viewing that site?

Pls, how do I reset this and I should be able to answer the other questions after

    Thanks for your time

Pls, how do I reset this and I should be able to answer the other questions after

browser tool bar ‘View’ -> ‘Zoom’ -> ‘Reset’
or press ‘CTRL 0’ (press the ‘control’ key and the number key 0 (zero) at the same time)

From your Screenshot, they both seem to have the same width. I’m just concerned because of people that might be viewing it on smaller screens like Notebooks. I don’t want Horizontal Scroll bars.

I will check on other PCs as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help. Thanks to everyone
