• I just tried to upgrade to 3.4.2 only to learn after I had installed the upgrade that the version of wordpress you are using MUST match the version installed on my host’s (Network Solutions) server, which apparently is still using 3.2.1. Since I have a shared hosting package, they couldn’t update the database to work with the new version. So, essentially I got locked out, had to delete the entire wp installation and start all over.

Fortunately I had backed up the site before the installation (thank God!)

Now I have to re-install wordpress, which is taking forever – the network solutions Website says it will be done within a maximum of 10 minutes. It’s now been more than three hours. Their customer support claim they are having no issues on their end and say that the issue is instead related to wordpress. That sounds a bit suspect to me, so I thought I would ask and see if this is, in fact, the case.

Regardless, I’m hoping to make my site live tonight/tomorrow and still need to make a few tweaks (and I’ll now have to re-increase the php memory and re-do all of the links for the new installation…)

Any tips on making the installation go faster?

Many thanks to all of the volunteers who manage this forum and maintain wordpress.

    Anna

The requirements for MySQL version changed as of WordPress v3.2 so if you were already on v3.2.1, the MySQL version would not have prevented you from upgrading.
