Different Image Upload Directory for CPT

Im looking for a way to upload images to a different directory for a specific post type through the backend. I need them separated from the usual wp_content/uploads/.

Any suggestions on where to continue looking is appreciated. I have researched wp_handle_upload, media_handle_upload and several others, but with no luck.
