Nope. You can’t map the primary domain.

OK – nightmare – is there any work around for this? e.g. at the control panel end?

    Thanks

Not really. The domain mapping plugin takes in all domains and passes it through to WP like it normally would for subdomains.

You might be able to somehow slip in a function ‘if ybc.tv, then skip mapping…’ but it’s WP that’s doing this.

I guess I could move my primary site to be a sub site?

And have something else as the primary?

I mean there is nothing really special about being the primary site?

Even with single site installs, WP doesn’t like having more than one ‘domain’ as it’s home. The reason you can add secondary domains to other mapped domains is they’re really acting as parked domains. Since we’ve already said ‘All mapped domains get parsed’ we have to provide something for it to park at :/

It probably could be done better, but since no one could sort it out, we get what we got.

You’re right, in that which domain is ‘primary’ doesn’t matter (unless you have open registration), so that’s one way to handle it. The other would be to be sneaky.

You could make it an add-on domain and have a .htaccess (or php) redirect back to the real domain. Or…. Install http://yourls.org/ and run your own URL shortener.
