[Plugin: FBF Facebook page Feed Widget] Getting simplexml_load_file errors from widget

I’m getting these warnings – looks like the same from this issue:

I added this code in my .htaccess file:
php_value allow_url_fopen 1
and I got a 500 error.

I then created a php.ini file with this code:

ini_set("allow_url_fopen", true);
?>

and I get the original error again.
