• I’m curious what kind of errors in the database will generate certain WordPress messages. For instance…
I’m getting the error stating my wp-config.php file is wrong… however, I have not changed it since it was last working. The IT folks down in the server room say the machine is running. The database had been working perfectly fine (for about a month) up until last Thursday.
What kinds of database errors trigger that message to display? I’m curious because I’m trying to give the DB admin the information, but all I have to go on is the WordPress error message and not the actual error that’s triggering it.

  • I would hazard a guess – and it is only a stab – that those IT guys have done something to the server config.

Yeah… it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve been trying to find a guide on where those error codes might be. Is that documented anywhere on what error messages from MySQL correspond to which messages WordPress displays on the page?

I wouldn’t assume it’s a database error. can you log in to the database manually? do you have phpMyAdmin installed so you can check it out yourself? there’s not much to go wrong if you have the right database, user, pass. maybe the mysql database isn’t on localhost. ask your guys if it’s on a different server, maybe they moved it.
that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Argh… I’ll shoot them if they moved it. This means a trip to the server room on Thursday. I wish I didn’t need an escort to go anywhere in this place. I’ll see about going down there on Thursday, but it might just be easier to wait until the main guy comes back next week. He’s been out for a while due to knee surgery. Unfortunately, the phpMyAdmin is only accessible from his machine in that room. We tried from this machine when I had him on the phone several weeks back and it refused to work.
