Using the importer I get error
Unable to create directory /hsphere/local/home/vitzdrks/vithit.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
There is no “wp-content/uploads/2012/09” folder should I create one?
Thanks
Same problem. Trying these one by one fixed it for me. Found this from another user so beyond this idea I will be of no help to you. Hope this works!
Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777.
I have done this for my websites last month I have written one blog post for the same read it will help you in migrating your websites.
here is the link How to transfer wordpress website to new host/
Also, make sure you recurse permissions into all sub-directories.
Thank you very much for your tutorial!
I am wondering though does wordpress need to be installed on the new host first or will the zip file install it?
Thank you!
Also will this change the URL to the new one?
Thanks!
Ive read through that, there are so many options and Im not sure which ones to follow.
When I follow a set of instructions it starts saying “if” and that confuses me so much I cant figure it out.
Thanks
Which “if” is the problem?
If you do a search and replace on your entire database to change the URLs, you can cause issues with data serialization, due to the fact that some themes and widgets store values with the length of your URL marked. When this changes, things break. To avoid that serialization issue, you have two options:
So Im not to change the URL’s?
You need a special search & replace plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/safe-search-replace/
I also strongly recommend that you work on a copy of the .sql file rather than the original… just in case.
Thanks for all your help,
I have successfully and very simply moved and changed domains using
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-move/
Problem solved!
Thanks!
