Support » Fixing WordPress » Is it ok to alter a page URL?

  • HI,
I have a page that used to rank really well but the mobile version of my site overtook this page and the actual website page dropped like a stone.
I have stopped the mobile version now but it still ranks in Google (I guess it will for a while).
Is it ok for me to just change the URL name to see if it will rank again. If I call it a different title will google penalise me in any way?
Just want to lose the mobile version of the page (it’s now a 404 page) and rank the original website page.
The pages I created that didn’t go through to the mobile version all seem to be doing well, so I know it was something that the redirect did to my mobile slite.
So, if changing my URL is ok that would be cool.
    Thanks for any help
    Regards
    Chris

  • Do a 301 (moved permanently) redirect. Which will tell search engine the page is moved to a new one. Its better then 404.
