• Hi,

I have a Ubuntu LAMP Server (6.10) installed at home; works great. Lot’s of wordpress love happening.

However, WordPress isn’t sending me any emails (notifications, users signing up, etc).

I am sure I have to enable something in Apache in order to allow WordPress to access something or other that is required for it to send email … but I don’t know what.

(For example, to get the image thumbnails to work I had to install a php5-gd package.)

    Thanks,
    Damon

  • Well, we don’t support the servers here, but I’ll offer some thoughts: Apache doesn’t send mail. PHP does. So, as you’re searching the web, you want search for “PHP sendmail” type stuff.

Ah ha! That may help … thanks!

Is that what wordpress uses (as a module) for sending those messages ?

I guess my question was more of a: what is wordpress using to send mail on apache/php …

WordPress “uses” PHP. In other words, it says, “Hey, Mr. PHP. I’ve got an email to send. Do whatever it is you do with it.”

    Nothing tricky.

The tricky part is making sure the PHP has been configured to do something with email (php.ini) which is, typically, sendmail related.
