Support » Fixing WordPress » Trailing slash disappears from WordPress address

  • Hi,

my Blog is located at http://moritz.faui2k3.org/blog/ (it’s a sub directory, the trailing slash has to be there).
However when I change the “WordPress address (URI):” or the “Blog address (URI):” on the “general Options” page, it removes the trailing slash.

This is bad for 2 reasons:
    1) Every Link to the address without the trailing slash causes a redirect
    2) In the generated RSS feed there is a link to the address without trailing slash. Therefore I can’t submit the RSS feed to the Google Sitemaps program.
Since the Feed is located at /blog/feed, I have to add a site /blog/, and then there is a link in the feed to /blog which is not a sub page of /blog/ and therefore google reports an error.

I hope that was not too confusing.

In short: What can I do to prevent WordPress 2.0.5 from stripping the trailing slash from my blog’s URI?

  • Hello, I have the same problem with the trailing slash. Have you got the answer to this problem?

Hm. Did you add a trailing slash to your permalinks setup?

WP 2.2.x treats the trailing slash in a different way than before (function user_trailingslashit). Blogs with a permalink structure with filename extension like .html cannot have a trailing slash in the permalink setup. Hence the trailing slash of archive links and category links are now missing.

To fix this, you are welcome to use my plugin Smart Trailing Slash.
    Download: http://www.fastagent.de/res/download/smart-trailing-slash.zip
    Just unzip, upload and enjoy!
