  • It should appear in your wordPress.COM profile.

If you look at your Plugins page, you’ll see the link in the Akismet plugin description: http://wordpress.com/api-keys/

Yes, you’re registering with wordpress.COM. Yes, that’s not where your blog is. But that *is* where you get your API key from.

I’m trying to install the Askimet plug-in, but I can’t because WordPress did not provide the API key when they sent me my password.

I can’t log in to wordpress.com. I enter the username and the password that WordPress supplied, but I get a message saying the password isn’t right. I try to get a new password emailed to me, but that doesn’t work.

I can log into wordpress.org, but not wordpress.com.

This is frustrating. My blog is being deluged with comments advertising Viagra and penis enlargers and I want to install Askimet to bring it to an end.

I sent an email to WordPress Support, but don’t get any response.

    Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

    A) Your blog’s username/password is not the same as WordPress.ORG (here).

    B) WordPress.ORG username/password is not the same as WordPress.COM

    C) As you probably guessed, WordPress.COM username/password is not the same as your blog.

So. If you look at the post from me, today, right above your post, you’ll see a link to WordPress.COM. Click it. Read and register for WordPress.COM. That’s where you’ll find your API key.

Look! I can’t log into wordpress.com. I just tried to sign up again using my existing user name and it says I can’t because that user name is already being used!

I should have to set up a different account, even though I already have an account?

Unfortunately, we have no “influence” at WordPress.com.

I’d tend to agree with your last paragraph though. If you have an account that you can’t get into… assuming you’ve not used it yet… I’d just go ahead and register a new one.

Just to let ya know, I posted a thread over there at the .COM forums about this person’s issue(s).. Hopefully someone from there will help ..?

Thorne, if you see this, you need to email support ( at ) wordpress ( dot ) com. Only method of getting this resolved. We really can’t help you in the forums at either site since we’re all volenteers and none of use have backend access.

    Hope this helps,
