I signed up to Yahoo hosting today (as my first host) based on the recommendation of wordpress.org on their main site.

However I have been reading horror stories about how rubbish it is so I am not sure why they are being recommended.

Can anyone please let my mind at rest and tell me they are not as bad as reported?

  • sorry, but from a quick search here on the forums, and form reading threads, Yahoo is not the greatest host for your WordPress installation .. but now, if you like your site being up and down and up and down again .. they are great in those regards …

i personally suggest you go with another host provider.

my local hosting provider is just right down the road from my house and they have fair prices and great support. never have experienced any down time and for the price, you cannot beat it …

different markets support different prices for hosting and storage space, but for $50-$100 a year, they are not bad .. and they will even install the WordPress for you and help you out along the way … really great guys.

I think I have messed about with it too much today. They are a large hoster and I am sure not every customer is going to have problems.
I think I will let it propagate, get my blog transferred and see how it goes for a month. Its only $8 a month so I will not have lost much. If I have problems then I can easily switch.
I don’t want to risk propagation problems when they have not even got it setup properly themselves yet.

I changed my mind. I cant be doing with problems. I am very new to this and dont want to run the risk of rubbish.
The good thing is I have not transferred blog yet.
I have cancelled Yahoo and will now look for a suitable alternative

Good for you – I just finished a yahoo install for another user – it was an hour long nightmare when it usually takes about 5 minutes. I have nothing good to say about yahoo.

    Thanks all for the help.

I have signed up with Compila.com they have been very helpful and I cant see any obvious problems from users in the search engines. I have also seen it recommended by others on here.
I think I made the right decision.
