That smells of Mod Security :/
Oh? I’ve been thinking it might be some sort of conflict with Jetpack or something.
Jetpack doesn’t generally punt you to the home page, but Mod Security has done that to me many times in the past.
Check your error logs.

Well a mouseover of my Create A New Account link reveals that it’s pointing to wp-login.php. How would that have happened?
You mean from the back end?
From /wp-admin/network/users.php ?
Actually it should be pointing to wp-register.php and when I try to change the settings so an account and blog can be created and when I push the Save Changes button, the changes don’t take and suddenly it changes to the site’s home page.
You mentioned Mod Security. I don’t have that. On the Network Admin Dashboard I have Better WP Security but on the main blog I have BPS Security and WSD Security. Do you think having so many security plug ins could be creating a conflict? If so which one(s) do I really need and which ones are unnecessary?
mod security is a server thing, not a WP one π
Going to wp-login is what you see if you don’t have registration turned on. Which you don’t. I can tell because on the wp-login page, there’s no link to register.
I know I don’t. But I keep repeating the same thing. When I try to change the settings so an account and blog can be created and when I push the Save Changes button, the changes don’t take and suddenly it changes to the site’s home page.
Right, and what I said was that it sounds like Mod_Security, which is a server setting (has nothing to do with WP) may be causing the issue.
The other alternative I would assume you’ve already tried: Turning off all your plugins.
Apparently mod_security is not available with nginx web server, which is what I’m using.
Ah, and that is very important to know! (nginx isn’t the most common server type FYI, so you’re going to have to keep that in mind).
Looking at http://towerofbabel.com/wp-login.php I don’t see a link to register, which tells me registration is turned off on your network.
Right but every time I try to change the settings so a legitimate account and blog can be created and when I push the Save Changes button, the changes don’t take and suddenly it changes to the site’s home page.
