  • Let me try and rephrase your question:
I want every visitor of my website using the forum to be able to choose the “Notify me of follow-up posts via email” without logging in

I believe this plugin provides notification management through the user profile. Therefore non-registered users would not have access to these settings.

jpmizell is correct. This plugin allows registered users to turn off some of bbPress’s automatic notifications.

@jmdodd: Is your plugin a sensible starting point to build this feature?

It seems to be bbPress’s biggest missing point for me. I provide plugin support and many users come, post once or twice, and never return. Creating a whole account for that seems like redundant effort. But if there’s no other way…

This plugin was created to allow users to turn off notifications, not to provide subscription capabilities to unregistered guests. Allowing a user to enter an arbitrary email address without verification of the ownership of that address before subscription would open the floodgates to spamming.

It would be difficult to keep the following from happening without double opt-in code: a spammer could create a topic, subscribe multiple addresses to it, then just hit reply, using your mail servers to send spam.

Is there anyway to tweak this plugin so that unregistered users can subscribe and get notifications as well? A lot of other forums have this feature and it seems to work fine. Would love to see it for bbPress!
