• I noticed that today suddenly my blog has no categories displayed on the home page, and all of my posts are now “uncategorized”. I made a new post and my old categories show up in the “most used categories” tab, but when the post is published it doesn’t have a category. When I tried to recreate my categories with the same names as the old, I got a message saying that the names were already in use, however the category page displays no categories!

I tried deactivating all of my plugins, but that didn’t solve the issue.

    Please help.

    thanks,
    Anna

  • Hmmm…

Sounds mysteriously like you may be experiencing some database corruption.

I’d take a backup of your site immediately and then contact your webhost and see if they can walk you through the database repair process.

Such unpredictable behavior can be expected because of a very old version of WordPress (2.9.2), a broken or badly edited theme, plugins that may have been updated, and the latest server settings. All these can create conflicts and results as you see now.

I would deactivate all plugins and revert to the default WordPress theme first to see if it makes any difference.
