Store settings not working

The specific settings im having an issue with is on the presentation tab. The grid view settings appear to change nothing on my site when I change them. Essentially what I want is to hide my product description on the shop page and show images only. I have this option selected but it does not work.

I have added all my products as products and not as a page which I assume is the correct way to be doing it. As an added note I have not used css before and have not edited any of the original files nor would I really know how to begin doing so.
