    Hello,

I’ve been testing out this plugin with some PDF files uploads. I’ve noticed that clicking on a file begins the file download, is there not a way to just view the file (in the case of a PDF, image, etc) within the domain, just as you would any other PDF?

The use I was hoping to gain from this plugin would allow certain (registered) users to view the protected content, while shielding it from those who are not registered (even if they knew the file URL).

Can this be done, or is it in the works? Things are a bit more difficult if all files are download-only.

  • I have an unqualified answer that might help.

I’ve been using Download Monitor to do exactly what you’re looking for. It’s quite a bit more robust than this plugin, and it includes the ability to flag any file as member-only.

The plugin looks interesting, but I don’t see how it keeps files private? Perhaps I am missing something.

The most important part of this plugin is that only members can view the content.

Ah, I should have linked you to the developer’s page. One of the features listed is “Member only downloads, can also have a minimum user level using custom fields.” I’ve used that feature, and it works fine.

Right now I’m looking at another plugin, WordPress Download Manager. It seems to have a lot more features built into it than Download Monitor or Omni Secure Files do.
