• Hi there,

when using the sociable plugin with theme “Graphene”, it causes IE8 to crash (unrecoverable) when used with the Graphen theme.

If I used a different theme, or disabled the “Sociable” plugin, the site worked fine.

I posted over on the support for the graphene theme too, as it seems to be the combination of sociable with graphene which has a problem.

I tried all the latest updates – issue remains the same.

For now, I have kept the graphene theme, and use a different plugin for the social media / networking side.

Hopefully you can find the issue between the graphene theme and this plugin.

For me, I couldn’t wait for support, so my only option was to use a different plugin.

    Thanks – Cliff

Where? I didn’t see this on the Graphene support forum anywhere. The only mention I found of the Sociable plugin was 9 months ago.

For what it’s worth, the code from AddThis is very stable and easy to integrate into the theme in a number of different ways, especially via Graphene’s action hook widget areas.

    Hi kjodle,

    thenks for your reply.

Here’s where I posted to the graphene theme support:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/ie8-crash-with-graphene-theme-and-sociable-plugin

I had to go and re-post over there, seem to be some strange things happening (or not) over here on the support forums.

I have tested this with brand new WP install on 3 different servers, with only the “Sociable Plugin” enabled, 1 page, and 1 post – no other plugins.

Unfortunately, this crashes IE8 and is 100% repeatable.
The site (if you can call it that with 1 post/page) is not viewable in IE* with that theme and plugin combination.

    My question to the “Sociable Plugin” support would have to be;
    —-
“Have you loaded up WP 3.4.1 on a server with Graphene and Sociable ?.”

You need to answer that question first before giving ANY other reply.

If you have not actually successfully loaded a site with WP 3.4.1, Graphene (1.7.3 or 1.7.2), and Sociable (4.3.0 or 4.2.9), then any reply is not qualified.

Thanks again Kjodle, I’ll bear that in mind regards the hooks.
Graphene does indeed seem to be a mature and very well developed theme, so I’ve stuck with the Graphene theme, and I’m using a different “Social Plugin”.

Aha, I see I’m going ’round in circles here.

I’m posting in the same place … The Joke’s on Me 🙂
Love the Graphene theme anyway, and I’m sticking with it !.

Thanks for the great effort and result with this theme.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the official Graphene support forum: http://forum.graphene-theme.com

For what it’s worth, Graphene is fully compatible with IE8, but IE8 is, well, buggy. As the rest of the world moves on, it gets harder and harder to support non-compliant browsers, like IE.

I know of more than a few sites using Graphene and Sociable, so it may not be so much a conflict between Graphene and Sociable, as it is between Graphene, Sociable, and some other plugin you are running. (Yup, it gets complicated.) The only real way to figure this out is to (temporarily) disable your plugins to figure it out.

If you need it, a brief guide to that technique is here:
    http://blog.kjodle.net/2012/06/15/disable-your-wordpress-plugins/

If that doesn’t solve things for you, here’s an example of what I was able to accomplish with Addthis.com code and Graphene’s built-in action hook widget areas:
    http://blog.kjodle.net/2011/11/04/graphene-action-hook-widgets-an-easy-way-to-modify-your-blog/

It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it’s something to tuck into your bag of tricks.

Being able to laugh at your mistakes is an essential part of the learning process.

Glad to hear it. Graphene is full of awesome.

so my only option was to use a different plugin.

Sometimes that happens. Actually, that is usually what happens.

    Cheers,
    Ken
