Have you tried this method? It’s pretty simple and it doesn’t require a plugin?
I apologize for not being very well versed in these matters. How do I get to the wordpress function php file? I see where I enter the url for the post I want to redirect, but where do I put the destination page? And do I need anything in the post_ID FIELDS?
Thank you, Jack
Hey Jack,
It’s no problem! You shouldn’t have to modify anything in that code, don’t worry. What you have to do is:
1. Add a custom field to the post you want to redirect to another page. The custom field should be named ‘redirect’ and the value should be the url the post redirects to.
2. Past that code in your functions.php file. The functions.php file should be inside your theme’s folder. Let’s say you’re using a theme named ‘theme’, the file should be inside ‘wp-content/themes/theme/functions.php’
OK here is what I am trying to accomplish. In May I started this blog. I created my “About” page & it is my homepage. I realize now I did not understand enough about the differences between “posts” & “pages”. All of my posts in May went to a page called May posts. In June my posts went to the same page & If I changed the settings in Reading to have them go to June, then everything including May posts all went to June.
What I want is for May to be on a May page, June to be on a June page, July on July, etc. To get around this I just added entries to the June page instead of making “posts”.
I hope this makes sense and there is a way to do this.
Thanks, again, Jack
Why are you bothering with this when WordPress can generate date based archives automatically?
Yeah, if that’s what you’re trying to accomplish, archives make way more sense that post redirection.
