• I think it’s important to encourage as much user activity as possible.

So I’d like a page in my blog with one purpose: to display links (categorized) that users themselves submit.

In a perfect world I’d like a tiny admin interface where I create the categories and then the users can submit links, edit existing links and even delete (or report to admin) bad links.

However, I can’t find anything that even resembles this functionality.

Have any of you had better luck?

  • there are a hundred standalone scripts for something like this.(see hotscripts.com). and fwiw, link sharing pages suck (imho).

    why?
    1. they’re spam targets
    2. they require more upkeep then they are worth (see #1)

So, no, I havent had any luck, and I wont either.

A link submitted by a random surfer to a site has no value whatsoever to me. I wont click it, and I wont think twice about not clicking it.

If I read your site, I might be interested in what YOU chose to link to, not some google querying dolt that found your site through some obscure search. bleh.

I understand your point. The spam could definately be an issue.

Perhaps it would work better if an admin would have to publish the submitted links, and accept submitted changes to existing links.

I still want the user generated link list. Properly moderated it would be of greater value to users than if I try to keep track of everything that’s relevant myself.

I can see that this would be a fairly complicated plug in so my hopes are not so high of finding something.
    Still hopeing though.

I’m tweaking a blog to turn it into a small photo challenge and a ‘Submit your link’ plugin that autmatically displays the photo links would be greatly appreciated. I know a site powered by Movable Type that does that, and I’m surprised no one came up with this for WordPress.
