I have everything installed, I followed the tut from <a href="http://www.doitwithwp.com/domain-mapping-for-wordpress-multisite/">here</a>

and I have three domains. One is my main site (wp is installed at the root) and the other two are parked and added.

The problem is I can’t seem to add themes or really use their admin dashboard. If I click on admin from under the sites menu, the path can’t resolve.

I’m sure I’m missing a step, but can’t seem to figure it out. Any pointers? Thanks, and sorry if this was already answered. I’ve been searching round and having figured it out yet.

You can’t add themes per site. You have to add them to the network.

Did you test your subsites before mapping?

Good to know about the themes. The existing themes in the admin site are not showing up in my subs. I don’t think I tested them? when I went to the site I got a wordpress setup page. Is that what you mean?
I Deleted the domain under settings/ domains and if you go to one of my URLs (talkltc.com) you’ll see the wordpress set up (if you are logged in.

I’m sure I’m missing something, but I”m not sure what.

You’re missing something alright, but I’m not sure what.

Don’t worry about themes yet, let’s eat the elephant one bite at a time. We need to figure out where it’s breaking, and since you have performed multiple actions, we have to unwind them and start over.

    Turn off domain mapping.

Go to subdomain.domain.com (or domain.com/subsite, which ever you set up) and verify that it works. If the site displays, try adding an image there.

You should never see a WordPress setup page with multisite. Once configured, a new site will display the generic ‘Hello, World!’ post.

    Hi Ipstenu!
Love your Elephant comment. Okay, so I first when under WordPress MU Domain Mapping and de-selected all the choices, removed the ip and tested my site.
    http://talkltc.businessmakeovertoday.com/

    I get dns_unsesolved_hostname.
I then tried to deactivate the domain plugin… same thing.

So I went back to the tut and read thru it again…
One step that I missed, was creating the sub-domains in my c-panel.
I’ve done that and now I see the bluehost page, but not the wordpress hello world.

I deleted the sites from my admin and re-added them. from Sites/Add New.
    And same thing…

    Any ideas?

Okay, then you set up subdomains wrong 🙂 Not insurmountable.

By default, subdomains point to their own folder. If you notice, in cPanel you have a document root, and when you put in your subdomain name, it files in that root? You need to edit that so it points one folder up.

So if yours looks like this:
    /public_html/talkltc/

    Then change it to this:
    /public_html/

    Hi again,
    I’m closer! I was reading <a href="http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-subdirectory-domain-mapping-with-bluehost?replies=14">this post</a> and got a bit further.

I was able to map a few sites before turning on the domain plugin.

    <a href="http://businessmakeovertoday.com/bluetest/">This is one of them.</a>

Then I mapped a parked URL (http://www.premierlivingbenefits.com/) to a child site I created. The word press site is not showing but the bluehost, there is no web page.

I was trying to follow this <a href="http://wp.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress-multisite-beyond-basics-essentials-and-domain-mapping/">tut.</a>
Can you tell what I messed up? Thanks!

Are you mapping the sites like http://businessmakeovertoday.com/bluetest/ or just making a subfolder site?

    Thread Starter janjan32

    (@janjan32)

I’m not really sure what you mean? I have the multisite set up as sub folders, not sub domains, but I need to get the domain mapping working.
so my purchased parked URLs will not look like subfolders, but like their own sites.
I did a quick screencast to show you what I’m trying to do. Maybe this will help?

Thanks again for helping me out!

This is not a domain: http://businessmakeovertoday.com/bluetest/

That is a domain with a subfolder, and if you’re trying to map it like that, it won’t work.

    This is a domain: http://businessmakeovertoday.com/

    No folders. 🙂

Try to explain it this way:

My main domain where WP is installed is: http://example.com
    My subsite is: http://example.com/subsite
I’m mapping this domain to subsite: http://mappeddomain.com

Don’t jump back and forth when you explain, it’s harder to unravel.

Then I mapped a parked URL (http://www.premierlivingbenefits.com/) to a child site I created. The word press site is not showing but the bluehost, there is no web page.

If it’s pointing to bluehost’s holding page, then you parked it wrong, and you need to contact Bluehost to ask them how to do it.

    (@janjan32)

OMG! Just shoot me! I thought I parked the site yesterday after unparking, reparking…guess what?
    It was unassigned…

    Now everything works.

    Thanks for your patience.
