    Good day all!

I upgraded my site to 3.3.2 this morning (foolishly not creating a backup) and the site crashed.

This is the error on the /wp-admin – login page:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_rtl() in /home/wpuser/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 2102

    Whaddya figure folks?

    Hmmm….

I thought maybe if I replaced the general-template.php from an earlier version that the error would go away, but it isn’t.

With no access to any admin pages I am a wee bit lost.

Do you think it would help if I removed plugins via ftp?

When updating WordPress does it effect the database at all or just the site structure?

I would replace all of your WordPress installation files with the latest ones from http://wordpress.org/download/

Make sure to make a backup of your current wp-content directory though to save all of your uploads and any theme modifications.

While the error does reference the general-template.php file it is stating that it cannot find the function that is coded into that file. The function that it is looking for may actually exist in a different file thus creating the error.

It may be that during the upgrade some files weren’t not properly copied over or may have been corrupted.

Thanks! I downloaded the structure deleted all of the folders except for wp-content and then uploaded everything except for wp-content, overwriting the old files and now everything is fine.

Well done! If everything is fine, please mark this thread as resolved.
