• I have a domain name that points to a web host with my existing website. I just found a new host and want to make a new WordPress site.

What is the easiest way to make a new site on the new host, (keeping my domain name pointing to the old site) until I decide to ‘Go Live’ and direct the domain name to the new host.

So far I’ve installed WordPress in the root directory, but have found that I can not have access to the wp-admin because the domain name does not point there.

Is there a simple solution to this?

    Thanks!

  • Could try to connect using an IP address? Some hosts give you a dedicated IP address that connects to wherever your site is, perhaps with a port number too. Did they give you this information?

Matty is right, ask them about a temp URL, depending on your host, it might even be somewhere listed in your cpanel.

Typically it will look something like this:

http://IPS address here/~then your username here

If you can’t find it, ask your host and they should be able to give it to you.

hi Matty, no they didn’t suggest using an IP address or a temp URL
and thanks Bob, I’m going to look into that!
