• I tried researching this but it was overwhelming.

One post said upgrading worked, but I can’t even see what version I have.

I don’t know my user level, but if it’s enough to let me create and publish a new page, the content should take after I click the save icon and the update button, without refreshing with a blank content window in the editor. Thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Thanks–I’m new to this. I have 7 active and 3 inactive plugins, but from the descriptions I don’t know in plain English what they do, or how the live site would be affected by their deactivation, or how to fix the live site if I have to keep a plugin inactive. I’m creating new proposed pages to replace the existing site (of course, I don’t know how to do this with any kind of new theme or sliding doors without disrupting the existing site).

I also think it’s strange that I can’t see the version anywhere (I’m an administrator).

Trying to find a problem requires ruling things out. The first being a bad plugin and the second the theme. Yes, plugins and themes can cause problems on the back end so you need to rule them out.

Look at the source code for your site. Near the top will be the version number. You can also find it in wp-includes/version.php or post the url and I will look for it.
