I have been having trouble with permalinks. First, Ultimate Tag Warrior pretty urls don’t work. It didn’t create any .htaccess code that I could see. So I turned off the pretty urls for UTW.

But I created a page, as a test, called About. A link showed up in my sidebar, but when I clicked it, it didn’t work. It took me back to the root index.php page (without it’s stylesheet).

I hope this makes some sense. The page is http://www.angelaharms.com/blog

I would really appreciate any advice.

Do I need to include more information? Or is it a dumb question? I’m really stumped here.

Or is it a dumb question? I’m really stumped here.

It’s not a “dumb question” at all.. I’m just not great with .htaccess stuff myself sigh.. Usually people that know more about this stuff will help you eventually..

Hopefully whooami will swing by then and help you.. she is smart with that stuff, also.. HandySolo and some others..

Well, with WP2.x most of the permalink stuff is code based, so you won’t see much in .htaccess when you change your UTW settings.

What sort of server do you have? (in particular, OS and is it apache or IIS?)

Was just poking around your site. Permalinks certainly seem to be working. Can you elaborate a bit on what isn’t right?

It’s using Apache 2.0.?. I wasn’t able to confirm the OS, but I think it’s Linux.

In my first message, there were two separate things that happened. First, I couldn’t get pretty URLs to work for UTW’s tags. That, I just gave up on, and let it use ugly ones. So that works.

The second is what matters: when you click on the name of a “page” (rather than a post) on my sidebar, you get the root index.php page, instead of the file (or even the /blog/index.php page).

If you look at http://angelaharms.com/blog , on top of the right-hand sidebar under pages, it says “Test page.” I created that page, and the link appeared on the main blog page, but if you click that link, it delivers a stylesheet-free version of angelaharms.com/index.php rather than angelaharms.com/blog/index.php.

    Hope that was clearer. 🙂

Can you copy and paste your .htaccess here? And your permalink structure as selected/entered in Options:Permalinks ?

Well, actually… heh… I went into permalinks to get the … oh, nevermind. Long story short, I erased .htaccess and replaced it, and it worked fine. It’s strange, though, because there had been a whole long list of rewrites, and now there are only a few. Confusing.

Anyway, it works now, and UTW pretty urls still don’t work. But that’s ok.

I am *definitely* going to have to learn .htaccess. I will not be its victim anymore! 🙂

Will you mark this ‘resolved’ then?

    Sorry about that. Done.
