Folks, unlike most of you, I’m a beginner in website management.
I have a new domain with GoDaddy.com, and I want to move the site to WordPress, where I enjoy running another site from the same IPS, GoDaddy.com. A GoDaddy technician had installed that site on WordPress.
Now, for some reason, GoDaddy support personnel say it’s WordPress’s responsibility to help me install the new site on the WP platform. Whom do I ask for help?
    Thanks,
    Mustafa

Thanks, Esmi. I’m reading the material and hope to be able to install it myself.

By the way, what would be the main pros and cons of transferring my sites from GoDaddy.com to WordPress.org? I see that the support system here is much better.

wordpress.org does not host sites. You can run a site on wordpress.com but there are some limitations. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Mustafa,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble installing the WordPress software. Hopefully I can help.

As esmi mentioned, WordPress.org doesn’t host sites. WordPress.org is just the website where the WordPress organization distributes its software, also called WordPress.

To use that software, you may host it with a hosting provider, such as Go Daddy. There is also the option of setting up WordPress for free at WordPress.com, but as esmi also mentioned, there are limitations. These limitations are why many people opt to host the WordPress software separately.

Luckily, Go Daddy has a service that makes installing applications, like WordPress, very easy. This article explains, step-by-step, how to install WordPress using our simple automatic installation tool: http://x.co/jBWM

Of course, you must have hosting in order to do this installation. If you only have a domain name, you’ll need to add a hosting service. If you don’t already have a hosting plan, I would recommend getting the “WordPress Hosting” plan since it automatically installs WordPress (you don’t even need to follow the instructions in the article I linked above).

    Alon,

I was waiting for your response to my last message. Now I’m surprised to note my message isn’t there on the thread! For some reason it didn’t get through. Could be I sent my message in reply to the e-mail notifying me of your message, not using the link that has your message.

Anyway, here again what I was trying to say:

I greatly appreciate your offer to help me install my new domain, LIBERTY-AND-JUSTICE.COM, on WordPress. And I would like to have Go Daddy hosting service. The problem is that I’m traveling in the Indian subcontinent, now in Bangladesh, and for some reason your system or mine doesn’t process my payment through my credit cards or PayPal. (And now, for two days, I can’t pull up the Go Daddy site. I hope the glitch will end.)

As your records would show, after several unsuccessful attempts to pay for the registration of my LIBERTY-AND-JUSTICE.COM domain from here, I got one of your colleagues to use my American Express card in my Go Daddy account to pay for the registration.

So my first request to you see if you or someone else can pay for your hosting service by using the same card. Here are the particulars of the card in my account that should be used:

Type of the card: American Express.
    Name on it: Mustafa Malik.
Last four digits of the card number: 4000.
    Verification code: 6531.
    Expiration date: 03/2016.
I would like to pay for one year’s service, to begin with.

If you can help me pay for the hosting service, I will get on with the WordPress installation, following your instruction, as soon as I can log in to Go Daddy.

Thanks again for being so helpful.

Mustafa, I’ll try to respond more completely later on today, but in the meantime, if you are able, please delete your post. It is not safe to put ANY credit card or account details in a public forum like this. Please also change the PIN on your Go Daddy account as soon as possible as it is no longer secure.

To any WordPress mods, please edit or remove the post above (and this one if appropriate).

Thanks, Alon, for the alert. Obviously, I’ve inadvertently exposed my card to mischief. Please let me know if you’re using it to pay for one-year hosting service. After I hear from you, I will ask American Express to cancel the card and send me a replacement to my U.S. address.

    Thanks again,
    Mustafa

I’m apologize, but no, I won’t be able to make a purchase for you based on our communication in this forum. You’ll need to speak with a Support representative (either by phone or email) in order to complete a purchase.

By the way, there may be a different option for you. *If* you already have a hosting account with us, you wouldn’t need to add a new one. Our Deluxe and Ultimate hosting plans can host more than one site. If you have an Economy plan, it could be upgraded to Deluxe, which would be cheaper than getting a whole new plan. If that situation fits for you, take a look at this help article: http://x.co/jEuA – you would add your new domain as a secondary domain, then use the instructions I provided previously in order to install the WordPress app. During the install, the new domain should come up an option for where you want to install it – just remember to remove the “wordpress” folder name during the install since (I think) you want to install it in the root of the new domain’s hosting folder.

    Alon,
That’s I think what I should do: make the new domain secondary to my existing domain: ISLAM-AND-WEST.COM, and upgrade it to Deluxe. Or Ultimate? Your link took me to the Go Daddy site, but, as I said, I’m having problems connecting to the site, in this case some of its links. I clicked the “Add Domains” link but couldn’t open it. So I’m going to e-mail a request to your Support personnel, asking them to help me make the changes. I think they do the installation for Deluxe accounts, don’t they?
    Many thanks.
    Mustafa
