Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » [Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] High Memory / CPU utlization issues?

  • Hi, for the last year and a half I have had massive resource issues due to NGG. Through 3 web hosts and they have all pointed me to the same plugin – NGG.

I have over 100 galleries and probably more than 5000 photos total on my site.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled NGG fresh numerous times on several different WP installs from scratch and I get the same problems. Outages due to high CPU utilization and sucking up all the free memory I have available. I now have 1.4 gig of RAM on my VPS and when NGG is enabled it finds a way to eat up all available ram on occasion.

I have done malware scans, site is clean, timthumb vulnerabilities have been checked, and basically just by disabling NGG, my site has 100% uptime and zero resource issues. As far as I can tell I have no bots and there are no compromised files.

Has anyone had any success using NGG with lots of galleries and lots of images? I know various people have had CPU/memory/resource consumption issues with NGG.

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  • if you have lots of traffic, timthumb consumes cpu resources like crazy. So I would not recommend using timthumb if you have high traffic.

Thing is, my theme uses timthumb extensively and so does one of my popular post sliders – they are still active when I deactivate NextGen Gallery, and the site has zero problems. literally 100% uptime with no memory leaks or CPU spikes.

Now, if I activate NGG it’s guaranteed to take my site down in a few hours and I have to reset the VPS. This is going on as we speak. If I deactivate the plugin, I have zero resource issues and the site runs smooth with no memory leaking and no CPU utilization spiking. Both are directly caused by having NGG enabled. Multiple web hosts have told me this at this point.

Is anyone else having similar problems? I’ve seen others post about it in webhosting forums but never saw clear resolution. It seems NGG does not scale well
