Looking for some feedback on my website. I have had it since 1998, and originally built it using notepad with html and tables. The website had no changes since 2002 and was forgotten until the beginning of 2012 when my 10 year old host decided to stop share hosting and forced me to look at the website with renewed enthusiasm. Since I was moving it, I might as well make it easier for me to maintain.

Do you guys know how difficult it is to add a page/post to a website when you have to use notepad every time? 🙁

I will be the first to admit that the current design is very dull, but I have always relied on content rather than graphics. Having said that, I am looking for feedback to improve the look and feel.

    Firstly, congrats for getting wordpress.

Yes, your design is boring, but here is how to improve on it.

    1) Find a good looking theme, there are so many premium, magazine style, shinny and professional looking themes around, just search for it.

    2) Good to know that you had relied on content, rather than graphics. This is good, now you have great content on your blog, it is time to present it in a more better way.

    Take this article for example:
    underwriting-commercial-real-estate-construction-loans.php

It is a full page of content, but it is still difficult to read. Write short paragraphs, 2 to 3 lines at most. Break it down into sub-heads and points. Make some back-quotes, add some images from Flickr, creative commons.

Make it more friendly, so that readers find it more engaging.

    3) Customize it, add a logo and a header on the top. Improve your brand.

Now, coming back to the notepad thing, yes i can understand how difficult it had been. But now things are different and you have an easily update-able blog.

overall, you have a good blog,
    keep it updated,
    cheers,

I would replace the Ad panel at the very top with a larger header image panel to advertise your main areas of advice your website offers. Too many ads look cluttered and unprofessional.

You can search different themes on the net. I think your site is OK for now, but you can improve it.
