• OK…here’s the situation. I have a domain (2 actually) and hosting that I am using. I want to start a blog and use some of the space that I already have. However, I don’t want the URL of my existing domain to show up. For example, if my domain is “www.myfamilyname.ca” but I don’t want anyone to know my family name, how can I mask it?

    Hope my question is clear.

  • Hi TBakerHR.

If your host allows you to add several domains, you can just attach new domain to it and install WordPress there.

OK…I get that. But what if I don’t want to buy a new domain. What if I want to use the “www.familyname.ca” as in above, but somehow mask the URL when people go to my blog?

Perhaps I can’t and I’m thinking this through the wrong way.

I don’t think that masking domain is possible that way.

What about creating new blog on WordPress.com? e.g. “pseudoname.wordpress.com”.

You can make an add-on domain, if your host permits it.

    Add-On Domains are good if…

    • You have two domains mysite.com and my-other-site.com.
    • You want the two domains to be totally separate/independent websites.

In order to have additional add-on domains you need to purchase them from a registry. Add them to your host (they’ll tell you how) and they make a new ‘install’ in a folder.

Yeah…I thought about doing it on WordPress.com. But it was recommended that I don’t do that but rather install WordPress on my own site. I think it may have something to do with Google search…can’t remember exactly.

    100% impossible.

If you want to use a URL, people gotta see it. How else are they going to get there?
