    Hello,

I’m kinda freaking out right now… I can’t access anything on my website! Not the posts, not the admin panel, not anything!

I was trying to edit my site’s Style Sheet (I’m using the twenty ten theme), and when I saved the changes, I broke my website.

Now whenever I try to access the Style Sheet page, this is what it says:

    “Server error

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.why-is-my-poop-green.org/wp-admin/theme-editor.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    Here are some suggestions:

    Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.”

    Please please help!

    Hi ezzypro

I wouldn’t of thought editing the style sheet would cause this problem, more likely the functions.php file – have you edited this too?

If you have access to the site’s hosting control panel it would be worth looking to see what files had recently been changed in the theme folder. You can then manually remove the code you added via your control panel if you can’t access it via the WordPress admin area.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

I’m having the same problem (and also freaking out)- I was editing the style sheet, trying to alter the title bar of sidebar widgits, and all I did was add a command to center, or at least that is what I think I did. Now I can’t access the side or wordpress admin. I can’t even get a login page to show up, everything comes up completely blank. Can anyone help please??!

@soooz: It is impolite to interrupt another poster’s thread with a question of your own. Please post your own topic.

Ya, I’ve also edited the functions file a little bit too, but it was working fine even after I edited that.

I use Bluehost hosting, and I can access my cPanel for my website, but I don’t know what to do from there?

Wish I could help you, I had to get help outside these forums to restore my site from the back end since I couldn’t even access login, and my last post where I apologized for posting in the first place was removed, despite that I explained I was having same problem you were.

FWIW, my friend who hosts my page had to restore an old version of the site, you might ask Bluehost to do the same for you?

    Good luck!

    To remove the code you changed you’ll need to edit the files via your cPanel. You should have a menu option to access the sites files, from there you need navigate to the below folder;

wp-content >> themes >> you will then see the themes installed so click on the theme you’re using

Once you’ve accessed the theme folder you’ll see all the theme files that you edited via the WordPress admin area (header, footer etc). I’d recommend removing all the code that you enter to see if that restores the site – try the function.php file 1st. If it works take a backup of the site and re add your code, then if something goes wrong you can easily restore from your backup.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the inforamtion. Unfortuantely though, I can’t seem to find wp-content anywhere on my cPanel. You have any idea where I might be able to find it/get to it?

Try looking in the folder that you installed WordPress into.

You’ll need to access it via the file manager on your cPanel, under the heading Files there should be a File Manager option. From here you’ll see the file structure of your site and you can navigate to the above file. The wp-content folder will probably be in a public_html folder so open this 1st.

Thank you so much for all your help Sam! Weirdly enough, I did all the steps that you gave me, and for some reason my site still didn’t work (it seemed like it should have though!) Fortunately, Blue Host had most of my site backed up, so now I just have to do a little bit of work to get back to where I was before.

Lesson learned though! I am going to be much more careful when editing my themes!

    Thanks again for your help!
