Everything was working just fine until my site was migrated up a level to become my main domain. Now, files that are uploaded through an FTP client do not show up in the Media library. I have a graphic-heavy site and these files are for download so it’s important that I am able to find the file names quickly. Other zip files that were uploaded through FTP prior to the migration still appear. This affects uploads AFTER the migration (which was done by the hosting company). I have installed the Hotfix plugin but it has made no difference. I have re-installed WordPress through updates. The files are there and in the correct folders – they just don’t show up in the library.

I am pretty desperate to solve this issue since it will involve a lot of files, not just a couple. Has anyone else had/solved this problem?

My issue was resolved by creating a single php.ini file and locating it in the public/html directory of my site. This allowed me to change settings with regard to my upload size and have them apply to all subfolders as well. Instructions for how to do this are on the Internet so it’s pretty simple. Your hosting company may have options for creating this file as well. I use Bluehost and they have a one-click system for creating a php.ini – just make sure to choose the “single” option if you want it to apply to all subfolders, otherwise you will need a separate one for each subdomain.

With the new settings in place, I can upload my large zip files directly through the media library and they show up properly now. I hope this helps someone else out there with similar issues.
