• I’m working on a new install of WP network and I keep getting

    Error establishing a database connection

and it seems to be randomly about 75 percent of the time on the admin side. I’ve checked database user and password, hostname, and status of database server – all are correct. It’ll happen on the wp-admin page or I’ll get a few more pages into the admin side and then it’ll give me the error. If I hit the refresh button about 50 percent of the time it comes up without any error. Any thoughts about what is causing this? It happens with all plugins disabled the same as with all of them enabled.

  • As you are having problems sometimes wordpress has problem connecting to Mysql server. Check with your host tell them the problem where you get errors somtimes.

Hi, maybe You’ve already resolved this one or not, but I’ve had the same problem and found out an answer. So, I’ve also checked all user, password, but not the mySQL version. It was a database with, mySQL 5.5, and that was the problem. When I create a new one with all the same, but with mySQL 5.0, everythings go fine.

    cheers!

We are on mySQL version 5.1.60 and have been for a couple months. This problem just started happening last week. The host thinks it must be related to something in wordpress. They said the site has been

    throttled for over CPU usage

. I’ve checked and optimized all databases. When I view the mysql slow queries log, and all slow queries show various commands from

    wp_options

    .
    Does anyone have any ideas?

@jewlzmcq: Sounds like you’re on a crappy host that’s overloaded with sites and blaming you for their CPU loads and MySQL connection dropouts. Who is your host?

Hi Im currently seeing the same message “Error establishing a database connection” when i go to my domain (www.pokermedley.com)

Ive been using Godaddy shared hosting and recently moved to the Virtual Dedicated Server. Ive done everything that was instructed:

    1. downloaded files and uploaded them to my new server
    2. restored mysql database
    3. Changed connection strings in wp-config.php file

I have tried so many things and my site has been offline for many days now.

I am using Plesk control panel

    Possibilities:
    1. Currently my Database hostname is “localhost”, godaddy support confirms this is correct, but maybe its wrong?
    2. in the phpmyadmin there is a message at the bottom: Your PHP MySQL library version 5.0.90 differs from your MySQL server version 5.5.20. This may cause unpredictable behavior.
    3. I uploaded too many files? in the godaddy instructions they say only to upload wp-content folder but I uploaded everything…
    4. Shall I delete all the other files that are in the File Manager (the ones that I did not upload)?

Please help, any suggestions are welcomed.
Thank you very much in advance.

I have just found that in the phpmyadmin page, when I go to ‘Privileges’, I find that there are 9 databases there, including my own database that i created.

Now under the column ‘Host’, all of the databases have “localhost”. But for database “Any” and my newly created database, the name is “%”

Anyone know if this is a problem? If so how can I change it? Thanks!

@poke4605 i can see that you created and posted your question in several threads. I think this is not helpful for you or the community.

Have you tried contacting your host and ask them about the “Your PHP MySQL library version 5.0.90 differs from your MySQL server version 5.5.20. This may cause unpredictable behavior.” message?

Also how did you install WP in the first place?

    Thank you demetris888

I have just asked Godaddy and waiting for the response. Originally I installed WP through Godaddy, it was simple. But when I moved to VDS, I just downloaded the old files to my computer, then uploaded them. I then restored mysql database.

I never properly “installed” WP. Is this a problem?

    Thanks

P.s. Apologies for posting in so many threads
