• Hello. I have a rudimentary site up, but I have several issues I’d like to learn how to resolve as I refine the site. Here is a link to the site:

    VillarsCustomBows

I don’t know how to remove unwanted text that is showing up on each page.

The unwanted text is the block of text/buttons on the right side of the page, over which I’ve placed text saying “The Area Under This Text Is Under Construction – Please Ignore”. I’d rather not have any of that there at all, and I was told not to make it invisible. I believe I should be able to login to WordPress without the “login” button (if you can confirm that, that would be helpful).

I also would like to get rid of the “proudly powered by WordPress” text at the bottom right hand corner of every page. If it is required or if it is considered rude to do so, maybe I could have it on just one page.

I’m not saavy at all with WordPress, so any help would be very much appreciated. I have other questions, but I think it might be better if I post them in a separate topic. Just fyi, I am also trying to sort out a problem with sub pages under my main headings, want to figure out how to put up a different background (the sillhouette pattern on green behind the main page area) and header photo for each page, as well as find out if I can change the color of the background (now white) on each page.

    Thanks!

    Ken

  • The side bar usualy contains widgets , wich can be added / removed through Administration-panel->Appearance->Widgets -> Now drag/drop widgets .

Probably widget as kostas123 says, but you can look also in footer.php and sidebar.php 😉

Thank you very much for your prompt replies!

Kostas123, I did try removing the widgets in my Dashboard by dragging and dropping them. If I recall correctly, there were several more before I did that. Those remaining I can’t seem to dispose of.

YouON, I suspect from my research that I am going to have to change some code. I can look where you mention, but I won’t know what I’m looking at or what to do with it. Sorry! I think with my ignorance it is going to take a bit more detail to help me.

    Thanks again, guys.

    Update:

I played around with the widgets again. Removing the Meta widget changed the text (leaving “search”, “archive”, and “admin log-in”). Apparently that is the default if there are no widgets placed in the primary widget area.

However, I tried putting the “Text” widget in the primary area (by itself), with no text applied in the widget. That worked!

So thank you very much! I’ve been trying to change that for months…

I suspect I’ll be able to type text into that widget to put whatever I want in that sidebar now.

I’ll search again re the WordPress text (I think I saw a fix that took code change, which at the moment is beyond my skill level).

    I sure appreciate it guys.

Just played with it a bit more, and found I can add text in several areas, by dragging the “text” widget to the various places there.

Even better, I played with dragging the “custom menu” widget over there. This opens up some cool possibilities.

I wonder if it is possible to use this method or some other to place a photo over there?

I’m glad I asked here, and glad I played around with it more and came at it from different angles. I hope my experience helps somebody else like me when they do a search in the future.
