[Plugin: Calendar] Cannot use $ sign

I searched for help on the plugin author’s forum regarding this problem and was not able to find a solution.
The best anyone was able to offer there was to add str_replace('$','\$', stripslashes($event->event_desc)) at line 2170.

This caused a fatal error in the php for me. I also noticed that this code is present in line 1942. I’m not sure what else to do in this situation.
