• Using Duplicator for WP without cPanel
    Hi All,
if like me you want to clone your WP site and do not have cPanel and have an upload limit set by your ISP, then this is for you.

The problem with not having cPanel when trying to clone your WordPress instillation is getting the zip file into the directory with the install.php file. With cPanel this is a piece of cake but without it you lack the options in your hosting control manager to do this, so you have to use a FTP Client like Dreamweaver or others.

Then you have the restriction where, you try and upload the zip from your client and it only uploads a certain amount of the file and then restarts the upload trying to complete it and never managing to do it.
OK, here is how to do it.

1st, Run Duplicator and Download both Package and Installer to your desktop (or other location of your choice).

2nd, Extract the zip file and load into a folder in your FTP client and upload it (in sections if necessary) to the directory you wish to install your clone of WP. Make sure that the WP files are not still in the unzipped folder but are in the directory.

3rd, Upload the install.php to the same directory.

4th, Create an empty folder and name it the same as your Duplicate zip Package, e.g. 20120130_duplicate and zip the empty folder, and then upload to the same directory as the install and the clone files. This is done to fool Duplicator into thinking that the downloaded package is in the directory so the installer will find it.

5th, Go to the install.php page and click the get button to populate the install URL box and you should now see the package file in the Package Name box.

6th, Make sure you tick boxes, ‘Delete Package After Install’ and ‘Manual Package Extraction’.

    7th, Input your DB settings.

8th, Click Install at the bottom of page.
You should now have a working clone.

    Good Luck,
    Simon.
