are you using a WP.com account or are you installing WP onto a web account you have setup with a hosting company?
if you have an account with a host, you should be able to FTP and upload the theme folder to the “wp-content/themes/” folder and then login into the admin and under presentation select your theme

I am using wp.com account only. the problem is i am able to see the folders in the wp-content/themes which are the default style folders. But i need to know how to upload a new theme over that place??
At wp.com you cannot – you can use only the themes offered by your host.

I too am having issues with uploading new themes as well. I own my own domain and have installed WP. I’ve ftp’d the folders/files over – but I am unable to see the new template in “presentation”.
Here is the ftp path that I am using:
/public_html/wp/wp-content/themes/gridlock-theme
The css file is included in the directory. Any suggestions.
