  • Hi dfarese,

I’m not sure what type of theme you might be looking for as there are so many variables. If you’re not happy with any of themes you’ve tried so far, keep in mind that you can create a Child Theme and customize the theme. You may also want to look into an easy to customize theme like Constructor or Atahualpa.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the response. I am looking for a breeders theme, to sell animals, like horses, cows, that the breeder breeds. I tried to find some sort of breeder theme, if it was for cats or dogs, but I can’t find one. I really need one if anyone knows of one?

    Hi dfarese,

What would you define as a “breeder theme?” Does it need to come with a certain look or features? You should be able to do this by customizing a theme and adding plugins. Since you are looking to sell through your website, I would recommend an e-commerce plugin which might add all the functionality you are looking for.

    Hope this helps!

Hey thanks for the help Christini, well I need something where I can almost have like a product list show. I need to have the horses in separated in different breeds listed with pictures and info per horse.

I tried in my own, but I need something with listing feature or something. but i need listing feature for for sale horses and then listing feature, to show the horses that are the fathers and mothers. so like our breeding horses link on main menu, and then another link on the main menu for for sale horses.

Somthing like this page, that has lists for breeding horses and I’m sure for the horses for sale, but their for sale is coming soon right now:

    Hi dfarese,

Thanks for the details, that helps to clarify things. I would recommend using an e-commerce plugin to show the animals for sale. Your main categories could the the animals (cow, horse, etc.). Sub categories could be either breed, markings or however you want to categorize your animals. You could create attributes as well, and have sire (father) as one attribute and the dam (mother) as another attribute.

You could create pages (and even sub pages if needed) to show the different sires and dams of the animals for sale.

    Hope this helps!

Do you know of a good plugin that can do lists on different pages, like products lists?

    thank again 🙂

    Hi dfarese,

WP e-commerce is pretty easy to use:

For just the images of the sires and dams, I would try a gallery plugin like NextGEN:

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks, that’s awesome!

    Hello dfarese,

I just wanted to check in with you and see how your new site is going. Were the plugins and themes I suggested helpful?

    Thanks!

Yes your really helped me out, Thank you so much! I went with a e-commerce theme. One thing though, if I make a page or a category for a menu button, but don’t want that clickable, only the sub menu, how do I do that?

    Hi dfarese,

I would recommend trying out one of the Custom Menu plugins:

    Hope this helps!

But the theme has it’s own Custom Menu built in. but I can’t find where I can just turn off not to display page for the main menu name you click on to get to the sub menu. Their isn’t something built into wordpress?

    Hi dfarese,

I did find a way, this may sound convoluted, but it works (at least for me in Twenty Eleven):

    1. Go to Appearance > Menus
    2. Create your new custom menu
    3. Add a Custom Link (leave http:// in the URL field for now) to your custom menu
    4. In the custom menu, edit the menu item and delete everything in the URL field.
    5. Drag any items you want to be sub-items under your new menu item. Then drag those items slightly to the right to make them sub menu items.

    Hope this helps!
