[Plugin: Dave's WordPress Live Search] quotes turned into ? question marks

In the wordpress post the following text looks like this in the editor, in html view:
The “real stuff” (not fancy quotes)

and when viewed on the page it has the fancy quotes

within the dropdown search result it looks like this:
The ?real stuff?
