    7-Zip should be fine. I use it frequently.

    First check to make sure that what you uploaded was;
    /plugin_folder/plugin_files, and not
    /plugin_folder/plugin_folder/plugin_files

    Then make sure that the plugin folder actually landed in your /wp-content/plugins directory.

    I transferd the folder to /wp-content/plugins directory. but when I go to my wordpress control panel I don’t see it.

    I see you can now install plugins in your control panel. instead of having to ftp this. I remember before they did not let you do this you had to ftp your files.

    I think self hosted WordPress installations have always let you upload plugins from the dashboard.

    Are you self hosted or do you have a free blog on wordpress.com?

    My website was set up and is hosted by COOLHANDLE but there are a lot of corrections to the articles and other problems I am trying to deal with.
