Support » Fixing WordPress » 3.3 Permalink issues 404

  • Hi Everyone.

By googling it and even by this own site I am finding that this seems to be a common issue. The last one I looked at I had hope, however it dealt with problems with sub-domains and sub directories, and that does not apply to me.

I installed WordPress 3.3 on my site and I like it. I really do. However I want to change the permalink structure to the Day and Name Setting (http://www.example.com/2011/12/19/sample-post/). When I did that it came up with an error that said that it needed to write to the .htaccess file. I both made it with the content provided and when that didn’t work I chmod g+w .htaccess, the message about permissions went away. Both ways I got a 404 error when following the link to the post itself, though it still showed up on the main page. The site is in the parent directory for the domain (/home/www/example/), not a directory within that domain nor is it a sub-domain.

Every answer that I have looked at doesn’t seem to work.

I like how it seems like it is a big problem because they even use a permalink problem with 3.3 as an example of how to describe a problem.

    Anyonw have a solid solution?

    Thanks.

  • Your server environment needs to be running some version of mod-rewrite for permalinks to be used…Check with your host if it is…

Good morning, I have WordPress 3.3 now, having recently upgraded on a multi-site. I have tried to disable, update the mod_rewrite rules, disabled the theme, disabled plugins and the only permalinks that work are the default permalinks. I have been unable to use the pretty permalinks option since the upgrade. Any ideas on any other thread to tug on and resolve the errors?

    Thanks!

Sorry, disabled .htaccess, upated the rules, etc.
