• I updated this morning to 3.3 and when I went in to do some editing I noticed that main section of my homepage was empty!!! The sidebar is still there, and all the other pages are still there.
Is there a backup copy somewhere that I can revert to??

  • Having the exact same problem. Don’t understand how this kind of issue could not have been foreseen during testing. I’ve upgraded wordpress many times for almost 2 years now and never had all my posts lost on me.

To make things worse, I do regular backups of my websites but looks like I forgot this one. So now it looks I am screwed.

    The same here.
All posts are not visible even if they are there, under categories for ex.

I had a problem updating, so I disabled my plugins using the FTP method: change name of plugin folder to plugin.hold, create new (empty) plugin folder, then once updated, delete new plugin folder and rename “plugin.hold” to just “plugin” again. That made it possible to update WP. But once all of that was done, I saw the same problem you have – my home page was missing lots of elements. When I looked into why, I noticed that all my plugins are inactive. And it will not let me activate them. I’m looking for a post with this exact problem, but If I don’t find it, I will open a new thread. I just wanted to share with you in case your problem is related.

So there is no archived copy anywhere for the homepage like the Pages have???

I’m having a similar problem, only the missing text is in the edit mode. Thankfully it is still visible on my front page. I realized that all of my text on edit mode is white, so it’s there, it just can’t be seen unless you highlight it. I’m also missing the bar that has all of the formatting buttons.

I just fixed my problem. Login to cpanel, or whatever web admin software you use, and go into phpMyAdmin.

From there, on the left hand side, click on the appropriate wordpress database and then scroll to the bottom of the page. Select all to check all the files in the databse and from the menu, select “repair”.

Basically, there was an error in the wp_posts table in my database and phpmyadmin allows you to repair specific tables inside your databse.

    It worked beautifully for me.

    I followed these instructions:

Don’t understand how this kind of issue could not have been foreseen during testing.

In all seriousness, we can’t know the unknown. People who volunteer to test trunk, RC and the beta releases test as much as we can, but there’s no way possible to test everything. I wish there was :/

Make sure you’ve read the entire Master List post and the New Features in 3.3 Post.

Go to your own install’s about page – http://domain.com/wp-admin/about.php – to see what’s new.

And then make sure you’ve tried…

    – flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. If you can’t log in to change themes, you can remove the theme folders via FTP so the only one is twentyeleven. That will force your site to use it.

    – manually upgrading. When all else fails, download a fresh copy of the latest.zip file of 3.3 (top right on this page) to your computer, and use that to copy up. You may need to delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders on your server. Read the Manual Update directions first!

Issue resolved by myself !!! 😀

In fact , I checked in my Cpanel them MySql tool. (without going in the PhpMYadmin panel)
I pushed the button “REPAIR” the database and Plop !!! Post are here again !!!

So check ALWAYS the health of DB !
    Inside Cpanel > Mysql DB

Hope it will be useful !

I wish those worked for me, tried both ways phpadmin and SQL database repairs and still nothing. I can’t even redo the page because I can’t save anything, it doesn’t seem to be working…
Didn’t work in twenty eleven either…???

So to re-cap my problem – when I try to create or edit a post, the editor bar is missing, and all text is white on a white background. This leaves me no way to compose or edit text.

I disabled every plugin, and I am already using the Twenty Eleven theme, and I repaired the database, and none of that fixed my issue.

However, I tried another browser and it works fine.

It does not work on my Firefox 8.0.1 for Mac OS X
or on Google Chrome 15.0.874.121 (I realize there’s a newer vesion, but the update server was not avail when I tried)
    It works on Safari 5.1.2

As long as I have a work around, this is not urgent for me since it does not affect the view others have of my site, only my admin view, and only on those browsers.
