Store all files directly on Amazon S3

    Hi,

    I am currently using 3.3 on my own server.

    I know there are several solutions to using amazon S3 to cache wordpress files (including the excellent W3tc plugin) but I was wondering if there could be anything baked into wordpress to enable wordpress files e.g. images etc to be stored and served ‘directly’ from S3.

    As far as I am aware (and i am no expert in wordpress), there is currently no way of doing this i.e. any solutions currently store a copy of the files on the main server and on S3.

    It would be great if there was a way to specify where the media files were stored through the wordpress gui or in the config file (if there is already a way to do this then I apologie for the post and am suitably embarrased).

    There are a couple methods to do this:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tantan-s3/ might work for your needs.

    Also, you could look at W3TC (caching plugin), it lets you choose which file extensions or files, you want to host at the CDN/storage location.

    Many thanks for your reply.

    It may be a misunderstanding on my part but the w3tc plugin works by creating a copy of your media files on S3 or cloudfront to be served as required. I am looking to cut out the ‘copy’ completely and host my files on S3. I am currently using the w3tc plugin but my server still gets hit for uncached files and it would be great if I could change this.

    The tantan http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tantan-s3/ plugin looks like it could be an answer but it does not seem to support multisite (which I use) and it looks like this plugin is no longer supported/updated.

    Does anyone have a neat (without too much programming etc) way to do something similar to the tantan plugin (using multisite)?

    No, afraid not. Just using the caching/storage solution provided by my host now.
